Samsung is preparing to take a major shot at the smart glasses market. The official-looking renders of Samsung’s upcoming wearable—codenamed “Jinju”—were leaked by Android Headlines, revealing a design that is surprisingly slim, stylish, and remarkably similar to standard eyeglasses.

This new device, expected to be called Galaxy Glasses, represents Samsung’s second big push into the world of Android XR (Extended Reality), following the announcement of its Galaxy XR headset last year.

    Design: Svelte, Smart, and Screenless

Unlike bulky VR headsets, the Jinju model focuses on being wearable all day. According to the report, the design is a massive step forward in making tech look like fashion.

    • No Display: This first version does not have a screen. It looks like a normal pair of high-end frames, featuring a lightweight 50g build.
    • Camera & Audio: The glasses are expected to feature a 12MP Sony camera for photos and videos, along with directional speakers (and potentially bone-conduction technology) for private audio.
    • Premium Partners: Following Meta’s success with Ray-Ban, Samsung has reportedly partnered with luxury eyewear brands Warby Parker and Gentle Monster to ensure the frames look like a fashion accessory, not just a tech gadget.

    The Power of Gemini AI

While the glasses lack a screen, they are packed with intelligence. Running on the Android XR platform, the Galaxy Glasses will be deeply integrated with Google’s Gemini AI.

    • Visual Context: Using the built-in cameras, you can ask Gemini to translate a sign in real-time, identify a landmark, or ask for directions through Google Maps via audio.
    • Smart Assistant: Gemini will handle weather updates, messaging, and photo-taking through voice commands, giving Samsung a significant AI edge over Meta’s current offerings.

    Leaked Specifications

The technical details suggest a powerful, efficient device designed for the modern user:

    • Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon AR1
    • Battery: 155mAh (designed for all-day standby)
    • Connectivity: WiFi and Bluetooth 5.3
    • Lenses: Photochromic transition lenses that darken in the sun.

    Price and Release Date

Samsung is expected to tease the Galaxy Glasses at its Summer Unpacked event in July, alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Watch 9. A full launch is likely to follow later in 2024.

The leak suggests the Jinju model will be priced between $379 and $499, placing it directly in competition with Meta. For those waiting for a visual display, a second, more premium model codenamed Haean (featuring a micro-LED screen) is reportedly slated for 2027 with a price tag between $600 and $900.

    Editor's Take

I tested the Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2) and found the POV feature on its 12-megapixel camera to be much more accurate and smooth than a smartphone. It's a great choice for those who want to capture moments with friends, memories, or hobbies even when their hands are busy. And it seems that Samsung Glasses will also have such advanced AI based features.
