If you have ever been watching a intense gaming tournament or a breaking news livestream only to be interrupted by a 30-second ad at the most important moment, you know how frustrating it can be. YouTube has officially acknowledged this “vibe killer” and is rolling out an AI-driven system to fix it.

Under the new update, YouTube will automatically hold back advertisements during livestreams if the “chat engagement” is at its peak. This means when a stream gets exciting and the comments are moving fast, the system will delay ads for everyone to keep the momentum going.

    Rewarding Fan Support

While the “collective vibe” protection helps everyone, YouTube is also introducing a more direct reward for fans who spend money.

Starting today, any viewer who sends a Super Chat, Super Sticker, or a Virtual Gift will receive a personal “ad-free window” immediately after their purchase. This ensures that if you pay to have your message highlighted on the screen, you won’t miss the creator’s reaction because an ad suddenly started playing.

    New Features for Creators

Alongside the ad changes, YouTube is expanding its toolkit for creators to help them reach more people:

    • Dual Streaming: Creators can now stream in both vertical and horizontal formats at the same time. This allows mobile viewers and TV viewers to watch the same stream in their preferred orientation while sharing a single, unified chat.
    • Global Gifting: The “Virtual Gifts” feature is expanding to several new countries, including Canada, South Korea, Indonesia, Thailand, Australia, and New Zealand.
    • Horizontal GIFs: Viewers can now send GIFs during standard horizontal streams on mobile, a feature previously restricted to vertical “Shorts-style” lives.

    Why the Change?

This move is largely seen as a way for YouTube to compete with platforms like Twitch and Kick. As livestreaming becomes a primary source of income for creators, the “interruptive” nature of ads has been a major complaint.

By using an algorithm to “sense” when a stream is too exciting for an ad break, YouTube is betting that better user experience will lead to longer watch times and higher fan spending, which ultimately benefits the platform’s bottom line.

    Availability

These updates are currently rolling out globally. If you are a creator, these features will be enabled automatically as long as you have “automated ads” turned on in your dashboard. For viewers, the ad-free windows will activate the next time you support your favorite streamer with a Super Chat or Gift.

    Editor's Take

YouTube has really made a big update to it. I was watching a live stream of a Minecraft game a while back and the peak moment was when the stream was constantly getting comments and ignoring regular ads.
