Getting dressed is about to get much easier. A new feature called Wardrobe is coming to Google Photos to help you catalog your clothes and plan outfits using artificial intelligence, confirmed by Google. The tool aims to solve the nothing to wear problem by turning your past photos into a digital closet that lives on your phone.

    How the Wardrobe Feature Works

Instead of making you manually scan every shirt or pair of pants you own, Google’s AI does the work for you. The AI scans your existing photo library to identify pieces of clothing you have worn in the past. It then automatically creates a dedicated Wardrobe collection where you can filter items by categories like tops, bottoms, jewelry, and dresses. By showing you everything in a digital list, the app helps you find long-forgotten items buried in the back of your physical closet.

Mix, Match, and Virtually Try On

The feature goes beyond just listing your clothes; it helps you style them.

    • Virtual Try-On: You can select different pieces of clothing and click Try it on to see a preview of how the outfit looks on an AI-generated version of yourself.
    • Create Outfits: You can mix and match different items to build new looks without physically changing your clothes.
    • Digital Moodboards: You can save your favorite combinations to digital boards for specific events, such as a summer wedding, a work meeting, or a vacation.

    Launch Details

Google plans to start rolling out the Wardrobe feature later this summer. It will launch first on Android devices, with an iOS version for iPhone users following later. Once live, the option will appear under the Collections menu in the Google Photos app. Industry experts expect Google to share more details about this feature during the Google I/O 2026 event on May 19.

    Editor's Take

I used the Indyx app, it may be an alternative for the Google Photos wardrobe feature. I found the edge-detection algorithm for background removal to be highly effective since it handles busy background textures easily. However, the auto-tagging feature regularly misidentifies color shades and specific fabrics, making fixing the incorrect metadata a tedious process of manual inputs on every item card.
